The accident between the Consouth and the Piri Reis occurred before 7 a.m. The Antigua-flagged Consouth was Antigua-flagged and the Piri Reis was Cook Islands-flagged .

Costa Concordia Refloating

Italian and American companies, Micoperi and Titan Salvage, continue working on refloating the Costa Concordia. Last week the first of 30 giant ‘boxes’ was attached to a side of the doomed cruise ship. There will be 15 of these hollow boxes on either side of the Costa Concordia. Once all 30 are in place a series of cables and pulleys will lift the boat upwards and set it in a floating position, with the hollow boxes enabling it to occur.

First two portside sponsons installed

Yesterday, April 17th, the positioning of the first portside sponson on the Costa Concordia has been succesfully completed. Operations have continued today with installation of the second sponson. Eventually, the sponsons will be welded on the hull of the wreck . At the same time, drillings for next 10 underwater holes will be undergoing in order to position remaining platforms 2 & 3.

The Transportation Safety Board is conducting interviews today after a Seattle factory fishing trawler being towed into Esquimalt Harbour Tuesday broke away and crashed into a docked warship. The Transportation Safety Board has deployed a team of investigators to Esquimalt to gather information and assess the incident, the safety board said in a media release.The American Dynasty is now in the graving dock. It was being maneuvered in Esquimalt Harbour, with the assistance of two Seaspan tugboats, to be brought to the commercial graving dock for regular maintenance and repairs when the crash occurred.

Six people were taken to hospital with minor injuries after a Royal Canadian Navy frigate was struck by a U.S. fishing trawler near Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt on Vancouver Island. Navy officials said the incident involving HMCS Winnipeg happened around 8 a.m. PT Tuesday at the jetty that CFB Esquimalt uses for mooring. According to an eyewitness, at about 8:20 a.m. the American Dynasty trawler was leaving a big ship repair dock attached to the base.
