Somalian pirates release oil tanker, $4M ransom

Muscat: Oil and chemical tanker MT Liquid Velvet, hijacked by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden, was released from captivity on June 4, and is heading to Salalah, Oman, according to international maritime security forces. The tanker was hijacked on October 31, 2011 by Somali pirates while it was approaching the Gulf of Aden on its way to Mormugao, India. The Marshall Islands-flagged tanker is owned and managed by Athens-based Elmira Tankers.
